FLINT, MI – The Flint Monarchs women’s professional basketball will return for another season and play their home games in the City of Flint at Mott Community College.
“The Covid-19 pandemic limited our options for a home venue, which resulted in us playing our home games outside of the City of Flint,” said Drey Wynn, Flint Monarchs’ president, and general manager. “This was not an easy decision but Macomb Community College in Warren, MI opened their doors and accommodated us; we are forever grateful to them.”
Flint’s roster will include local returnees Sparkle Taylor, Brandie Baker, and Jasmine Thomas. Returnees also include a quartet of players from Rutgers University; Stasha Carey, Caitlin Jenkins, Ciani Cryor, and Rachel Hollivay. A key newcomer is Allazia Blockton. She is the all-time leading scorer at Marquette University, 2018 Big East Player of the Year, and 2019 Sixth Woman of the Year.
Flint competes in the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA) and ended the 2021 regular season 4-4 overall. Flint also lost their playoff semifinal game against the Wisconsin Glo 84-97.
Flint has scheduled eight regular-season games and opens with back-to-back home games Saturday, June 4th at 6 pm against the Wisconsin Glo and Sunday, June 5th at 3 pm against the St. Louis Surge.
Additionally, Flint is one of six international teams that have accepted an invitation to compete in a FIBA tournament, the United Cup of Champions, July 13- 18 in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
“Playing our home games in the City of Flint and competing on an international level are big changes from last year but were necessary for the improvement and longevity of the Flint Monarchs,” said Wynn.
All home games and playoff games will be played at Mott Community College, 1401 E. Court Street, Flint, MI, 48503.
“I am looking forward to playing in the City of Flint, and I thank Mott Community College President Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, Director of Athletics Almon Perry, and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Schmidt for reaffirming their support and allowing the Flint Monarchs to play on campus at Ballenger Field House,” said Wynn.
The regular season general admission price for single-game tickets is $15.
