Osh Kosh, Wisconsin, UNITED STATES, /Wisconsin – The Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA) announced that Drey Wynn, head coach of the Flint Monarchs, has been named the 2023 GWBA Coach of the Year. Wynn received five first-place votes from a panel of 9 league representatives. Wynn expressed gratitude for the recognition and credited the talented individuals on his team. In his second season as head coach, Flint achieved an 8-0 League record (12-0 overall), won the Regular Season Championship and secured the No. 1 seed in the 2023 GWBA playoffs.
The Monarchs had a fantastic season, with three players receiving well-deserved league honors. Asia Boyd was a standout, earning Player of the Week honors three times. Aliyah Mazyck was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year, and Boyd further distinguished herself by being named Most Valuable Player of the regular season. It’s also worth noting that Boyd, Mazyck, and Ameryst Alston were all selected for the All GWBA team. The team’s 118-69 victory over the Kansas City Crossover on July 21 was a particular highlight, setting a new GWBA regular season record for most points scored. Wynn quickly acknowledged the team’s success, extending gratitude to both the players and Associate Head Coach Tedaro France II, whom he credited with being the difference maker on the sidelines. The team’s achievements are inspiring and demonstrate what can be accomplished through hard work and dedication.
